I&J has a Mechanical Engineering Graduate opportunity in Woodstock, Western Cape.

This two year program will expose the graduate to various technical and commercial environments within the fishing industry; where they will gain experience in fishing trawlers and processing operations. The graduate will get involved in several optimization projects as well as other strategic initiatives across the business.

The I&J Business will expose the graduate to the following:

• Experience in a highly specialised field
• International fishing and manufacturing processes
• Supply chain optimisation projects
• Vessel refurbishments and additional projects
• Performance and process optimisation
• Dry dock projects focused on improving turnaround time
• Continuous process improvements
• New packaging and refrigeration processes
• A complex vertically integrated value chain – from Capital Intensive Vessels and Production through to Domestic and International customers, marketing and selling via the I&J Brand
• Best practice International fishing and manufacturing competencies
• Vertically integrated, Domestic and International Supply Chain
• Complex (Nature, cost and extent) Capital Project involvement
• Process performance improvement and optimisation projects
• Commercial exposure to product innovation for Domestic and International Customers


• Final year of Mechanical Engineering with good interim results
• Proven leadership abilities (i.e. part-time work experience, leading projects, leading clubs, etc.)
• Strong technical ability


• Desire to become a specialist in a technical environment
• Highly hands-on and willing to get your “hands dirty”
• Resilient, flexible and open to change
• Ability to analyse and solve problems
• High emotional intelligence and maturity
• Ability to communicate on all levels
• Enthusiasm and energy
• A strong drive for results coupled with taking the initiative
